Office Chair Maintenance: How to Keep Chairs Working Properly
Regular maintenance helps an office-chair fleet remain comfortable and presentable. The exact maintenance interval depends on the chair construction and intensity of use, but a simple inspection routine can catch problems early.
Keep the upholstery clean
Use a cleaning method suitable for the actual upholstery material. Avoid aggressive chemicals unless the manufacturer specifically allows them.
Inspect the mechanism
Check height adjustment, recline and locking functions periodically. If a mechanism becomes loose, noisy or difficult to operate, it should be inspected rather than forced.
Check wheels and base
Remove accumulated dust and debris from the casters and inspect the base for cracks or abnormal movement. High-use office environments should include caster and base checks in routine facilities maintenance.
Check fasteners and armrests
Loose screws or fasteners can cause movement and noise. Inspect armrests, backrest connections and seat hardware and tighten them according to the manufacturer instructions.
For large office-chair projects, maintenance planning should be considered alongside the initial sourcing specification.
If a chair is genuinely beyond maintenance, browse current replacement options rather than letting a worn-out mechanism become a safety issue.
